Reducing the solution space of super-reconciliation, in bioinformatics.
Synesth Project, supervised by Nadia El-Mabrouk (UdeM)
January 2024 - July 2024
Nadia El-Mabrouk and her team, the LBIT laboratory, developed Synesth, a tool for super-reconciliation : merging gene trees and species trees into a global evolutionary history, to better understand how genes evolve across species.
Even among the Pareto-optimal histories there can be a billion or more of them, far too many to show to a user. My project was to return only "representative" solutions, which first required defining what representative means - an approach close to operations research and optimization.
Started as an optional course project during the winter 2024 session, it continued from May to July with the simulations validating the approach and the preparation of the poster presented at ISMB 2024.
